The UAE has ranked ninth globally among the most popular tourist destinations over the past 12 months, according to the latest “Travel Trends 2024” report issued by the Mastercard Institute for Economics.
The report highlights Dubai’s strong performance, ranking fourth globally among destinations experiencing significant growth in travel demand during the current summer season (June to August 2024). London, Athens, and Paris are the top destinations for travellers from the UAE this summer.
The average length of stay for tourists in the UAE has increased to four nights since the beginning of 2024. Additionally, tourist spending on reasonably priced restaurants in the UAE has risen by approximately 21% compared to the same period last year.
The report, which provides an overview of the travel sector and its changes across various global markets, notes a qualitative shift since the beginning of this year. This shift is characterised by a significant increase in travel spending and strong growth in passenger traffic. Despite fluctuations in exchange rates and varying affordability, travel demand is stronger than ever.
Globally, Japan ranked first as the most popular destination over the past year, followed by Ireland, Romania, Italy, Spain, Malaysia, Australia, South Korea, the UAE, and Indonesia.
