Engaging with different genres and developing unique perspectives, Emirati photographer Salem Sarhan Amer Alsawafi is in constant pursuit for the perfect frame that captures life and nature.

Hailing from Al Ain, Alsawafi started his photography journey in 2015 and has since then competed in several prestigious events, including the National Geographic Abu Dhabi Photography Competition, the Arab Photographers Union Exhibition, and the Italian Oasis Competition, where he won first place in 2023. Recently, he also secured first place in the Xposure 2024 Nature's Beauty category in Sharjah.

A notable recognition in his career is winning first place in the National Geographic Abu Dhabi Photography Competition. "The recognition validated my efforts and inspired me to push further. I found inspiration in the quiet moments of nature, capturing the resilience and beauty of the world even in challenging times," Alsawafi told Aletihad in a recent interview.

For Alsawafi, taking part in international exhibitions has broadened his perspective and encouraged him to develop a signature style that blends cultural elements with modern techniques.

"My approach is to capture the essence of life and nature, telling stories that resonate on a deeper level. I believe photography is not just about what you see but what you feel and how you convey those emotions through the lens," Alsawafi said.
Drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature, human emotions, and the cultural richness of the UAE, Alsawafi believes that "every photo I take is an attempt to preserve a fleeting moment that speaks to the soul".

He also shared the valued lessons he learned in his career, especially patience and the significance of being present in the moment. "Photography has taught me to observe life more closely and to appreciate the beauty in the small details," he said.
With meticulous planning and family support, he balanced his passion for photography with his full-time job.

Discussing the challenges of capturing winning images, Alsawafi said: "Photographing nature often involves dealing with unpredictable weather and lighting conditions. Patience is crucial-sometimes you must wait hours or even days for the perfect moment, but the outcome is always rewarding."

The landscapes of the UAE and Oman hold a special place in his heart due to their natural beauty, cultural heritage, and diverse environments.

One of his newest photos, which he just shared on social media, shows the paths and movements of stars in a stunning 360-degree view.

He took this shot in September in the Al Ain desert, capturing the scenes from sunset to sunrise.
By merging 700 photos and tweaking the lighting, colours, and details, he utilised Photoshop to create a peculiar capture of the stars' trails.

Alsawafi is currently working on several projects, including a series that highlights the hidden gems of the Arabian Peninsula.

"I am also planning a project focused on capturing the essence of traditional life in remote villages. These projects aim to showcase the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region."
