On the sidelines of COP 28, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) organised a panel discussion session for the four companies awarded its ‘Green Industries’ label to share their experience and insights into the implementation of green operations.

During the session, representatives from the four companies explained how they optimised their use of resources and reduced pollution by applying the best technologies and innovative solutions in their operational processes.

Emirates Global Aluminium, which is considered the world’s first company to manufacture aluminium using clean solar energy under the name (CalestiAL), shared how it managed to reduce emissions from its aluminium smelting process, while Al Wafi Food Products Factory LLC (Sadia/BRF) presented its sustainable agriculture production standards and its efforts to develop systems to recycle 100 per cent of its water and more than 40 per cent of its waste.

Arabian Cement Industry has adopted new technologies to reduce carbon emissions, and  has also established a research and development centre that focuses on sustainability. Emirates Float Glass company installed energy-saving systems to reduce its consumption by 10 per cent and developed new technology to recycle the reflective glass generated by its operations.

During the session, EAD stressed the importance of The Green Industries Labelling Programme in encouraging companies to implement the best environmental practices.

Engineer Faisal Ali Al Hammadi, Executive Director of the Environmental Quality Sector at EAD, said: “The eco-label programme boosted environmental awareness among companies and consumers, and helped reduce the environmental impacts of industrial operations, indicating that through this programme, EAD seeks to build strategic partnerships with industrial facilities to enhance our joint efforts in protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development.”

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi launched the "Green industries environmental Labelling" program with the aim of building collaborative partnerships within industrial sectors to enhance environmental protection.

The programme is based on global environmental practices and is implemented by encouraging industrial facilities to innovate solutions for pollution control and improve environmental performance. It focuses on four main pillars: resource demand management to enhance energy and resource consumption, the application of best technical and managerial practices to reduce pollution, compliance record assessment, and innovative solutions for environmental protection to promote economic growth and quality of life.
