ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
Abu Dhabi will host the 2029 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to a statement issued by the IMF.
The decision was taken following a vote by the Boards of Governors of the two institutions, the statement said. The meetings are scheduled to take place in October 2029.
This will mark the second time the UAE hosts the Annual Meetings, with the previous edition held in Dubai in 2003.
The Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, finance and development ministers, private sector leaders, and representatives from civil society, academia and the media to discuss key global economic challenges.
These include issues related to global economic and financial stability, job creation and poverty eradication, the IMF said.
The statement noted that the meetings are typically held for two consecutive years at the headquarters of the World Bank Group and the IMF in Washington, DC, and every third year in one of the institutions’ member countries.
The 2026 Annual Meetings will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, in October, during which an official signing ceremony will be held for the UAE to host the 2029 meetings.
“The World Bank Group and IMF look forward to Abu Dhabi hosting the 2029 Annual Meetings in the spirit of international cooperation and dialogue that underpins the work of both institutions,” the statement said.
The IMF added that it looks forward to welcoming the UAE and other member countries at the upcoming Spring Meetings in Washington, DC, where discussions will focus on the global economy, job creation and support for countries affected by the impact of the war in the Middle East.
