(ALETIHAD)

For the first time in history of the Arabian Gulf Cup or Khaleeji Cup, UAE and Saudi Arabia meet in the final in Jeddah.

The two countries have a overall head-to-head record of 39 matches, but none have been in a final in the history of the tournament.

The Whites are seeking a third crown after 2007 and 2013 while Saudi Arabia chase a fourth title in the tournament.

10.00pm - It’s a packed stadium and an electric atmosphere with flares and smokes adding to the festive spirit at the stadium.

3rd minute - UAE gets their first shot on goal. Nicolas Jimenez goes for a bicycle kick with his back to the goal but the ball sails barely one foot over the crossbar.

11th minute - GOAL. Hosts Saudi are up. Off a clearance from the first corner-kick, Hammam Al Hammy takes a shot and a deflection off the wall of thw UAE’s defenders leaves goalkeeper Khalid Eisa stranded and wrong-footed.

13th minute -  GOAL. Feras Al Buraikan is sent into the clear to score a well-timed goal.

39th minute - Bruno Oliveira is brought down by Hassan Al Tambakti's outstretched leg. Jimenez it is on the spot, but wait! VAR has summoned the referee to the halfway line.

The penalty has been waived off, it looks like the faintest of touch by Al Tambakti was not serious enough.

45th minute - The smoke from the flares has cleared as the teams go into the break with Saudi Arabia leading 2-0. As the teams pause after a chaotic first half, the picture is clear for the UAE. They will have to play out of their skins against what has been the best defence in the tournament so far.

65th minute - It has been a steady period of play with Saudi players content to play the waiting game and UAE backline cautiously trying to dictate the pace. The game is being contested in the midfield.

68th minute - Left-back Muteb Al Harbi breaks UAE defensive line to accept a cross but Eisa has spotted it and rushes out to stop an attempt for a third goal, blocking the shot with his chest.

87th minute – Lady Luck has deserted the UAE. A stinging volley beats an acrobatic dive by the Saudi goalkeeper but the ball agonisingly hits the crossbar. The rebound falls to substitute Fabio de Lima, who turns to shoot but his weak attempt rolls straight to the keeper.

95th minute - It's over. Saudi Arabia get their hands on a fourth Arabian Gulf Cup with a 2-0 victory. Not the night the nearly 13,000-strong UAE contingent of fans in the stadium were hoping for, unfortunately.
