Emirates NBD has expanded its cross-border payment service, DirectRemit, to cover more than 40 countries worldwide, extending its near real-time money transfer network across Europe, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The expansion allows customers to send funds quickly and cost-effectively through the ENBD X mobile app or online banking, offering real-time transfers, secure infrastructure and competitive exchange rates.
Introduced in 2014, DirectRemit initially enabled instant transfers to countries such as India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, the UK and Egypt. The service now caters to the needs of the UAE’s large expatriate population, supporting cross-border remittances for family expenses, education and investments.
Yousuf Saeed Mohd, Group Head of Personal and Priority Banking and Retail Banking Sales at Emirates NBD, said the expansion strengthens the bank’s leadership in digital banking and cross-border services in the Middle East. “Our customers come from all corners of the world, and their need to send money home quickly, safely and affordably is inherently personal,” he said.
The UAE is the second-largest source of outbound remittances globally, after the United States. Emirates NBD’s expanded corridors are supported by its partnership with Nium, a global fintech specialising in cross-border payments, and are backed by the bank’s digital infrastructure and regulatory compliance standards.
Customers can access the new corridors immediately through Emirates NBD’s ENBD X mobile app and online bankingplatforms.
