Hackers have published online data belonging to up to 5.7 million customers of Australian airline Qantas, around three months after a cyberattack, media reported on Sunday.
"Qantas is one of a number of companies globally that has had data released by cyber criminals following a cyber incident in early July," the airline wrote in a statement, adding that customer data had been stolen via a third-party platform.
The airline said it had disclosed the incident at the time and informed affected customers about the types of personal data taken, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and frequent flyer numbers - but not credit card, financial information, or passport data.
It also said it had obtained a court order in Australia prohibiting any use of the information.
According to the reports, the hacker group had threatened to publish the data unless the third-party provider paid a specified sum. That deadline had now passed.
The passenger details were posted not only on the so-called dark web but also on the publicly accessible internet, media reported. The group had targeted around 40 companies in the July attack.
