Affiliates of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), the sovereign fund of Abu Dhabi, and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC are jointly investing $1.6 billion in Vantage Data Centers to scale up its Asia-Pacific platform.

This was confirmed in separate statements issued by ADIA and Vantage Data Centers.

Vantage, a global provider of hyperscale data centre campuses, said the new commitment will support its acquisition of Yondr Group’s 300MW-plus hyperscale campus in Johor, Malaysia, one of the largest in Southeast Asia. The campus, located in Sedenak Tech Park within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, will be known as JHB1 and is planned to deliver more than 300MW of IT capacity across three data centres once fully developed. It will incorporate sustainability-focused technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling and is on track for EDGE certification.

Johor is fast becoming one of Southeast Asia’s most strategic data center hubs. It is benefiting from its proximity to Singapore, competitive land and operating costs, and strong government incentives.

The investment underscores the rising demand for digital infrastructure across Asia-Pacific, driven by advances in AI and cloud computing. “This expansion of our relationship with Vantage, one of the world’s leading developers and operators of hyperscale data centers, aligns with our strategy of investing in infrastructure that enables digitalisation,” said Khadem AlRemeithi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Department at ADIA. “This new commitment supports the growth of Vantage’s APAC platform at a time when advances in AI and cloud computing are driving regional demand for data centre capacity”.

Jeremy Deutsch, President of Vantage Data Centers, APAC, described the deal as a “pivotal milestone” in the company’s regional expansion. “With the support of GIC and ADIA, we are positioned as one of the largest providers of sustainable AI and cloud digital infrastructure in the region. Adding the Johor campus to our portfolio will bring our APAC footprint to 1GW of capacity. This acquisition enables Vantage APAC to continue to deliver scale and speed for our customers,” he said.

Boon Chin Hau, Chief Investment Officer, Infrastructure at GIC, said: “We are pleased to partner with Vantage, alongside DigitalBridge and ADIA, to support the development of data centre infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region. As a leading global data centre developer and operator, Vantage is well positioned to meet the growing demand for data centre capacity in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to contributing to its ongoing expansion and success”.

Jon Mauck, Senior Managing Director and Head of Data Centers at DigitalBridge, one of Vantage’s largest investors, added: “This is an exciting moment for Vantage as it accelerates its expansion across Asia-Pacific. GIC and ADIA have been trusted, long-term partners, and their continued support underscores confidence in Vantage’s ability to execute at scale in high-demand markets”.

With the addition of Johor, Vantage will operate or have planned IT capacity of 1GW across Asia-Pacific, including in Australia,
Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The investment and the campus acquisition are expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary approvals.
