Abu Dhabi Customs, as part of the Abu Dhabi Economic Delegation’s visit to Japan runs from May 6-9, is showcasing key digital initiatives aimed at streamlining customs procedures and facilitating cross-border trade.
The showcase also includes upcoming projects and strategic directions that support Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional hub for global trade and reinforce its role as a rising economic force.
Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs, stated that this participation reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to strengthening its global economic presence, promoting its pro-business environment, and deepening cooperation with key global economies, particularly Japan.
He noted that the visit aims to explore new opportunities, exchange knowledge and technologies, and build partnerships across various Japanese economic and commercial sectors, contributing to the development of a future-ready economy and supporting sustainable development goals.
Al Mansoori emphasised the central role of customs cooperation in advancing trade and economic ties. He explained that Abu Dhabi Customs is sharing its success stories and strategic projects to build new bridges and expand partnerships.
The organisation is globally recognised for implementing advanced customs practices, particularly in digital transformation. It has successfully re-engineered more than 1,300 procedures and fully digitised its services, offering over 40 integrated e-services in collaboration with more than 60 government and private strategic partners. This transformation has delivered impressive operational results, with pre-arrival customs clearance reaching 72% and average clearance times reduced to just 12 minutes, setting a new standard for the region.
He also noted that the “invisible customs” concept is now a reality in Abu Dhabi thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and smart automation technologies. One key milestone is the launch of “TradeChain”, a blockchain-based customs platform that enables instant transaction processing and real-time visibility across the supply chain.
Additionally, Abu Dhabi Customs is actively supporting the Trusted Digital Trade Corridor initiative, developed in collaboration with multiple countries to shape the future of global trade.
Al Mansoori concluded by highlighting that the Japan visit presents a valuable opportunity for direct engagement with decision-makers across the customs, trade, and economic sectors. He expressed confidence that the visit would help strengthen partnerships and open new avenues for business and investment, in line with the shared vision for greater economic integration and prosperity.
