As a strategic partner of the Liwa International Festival (LIWA 2025), Tadweer Group promotes sustainable practices within the community through their participation.
In an interview with Aletihad, Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group, said the festival serves as a platform to raise awareness of waste reduction, recycling and resource management, promoting circular economy principles, which align with the UAE's long-term sustainability goals for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Al Dhaheri indicated that Tadweer Group's initiatives at the Liwa Festival – Mureeb Dune focusing on positive change and unlocking the value of waste at their sustainability zone in Camp Plot A3.
"These include our solar-powered construction and demolition recycling plant in Al Dhafra and Enviroserve, an e-waste specialist which we acquired this year alongside Dubal Holding. Through our activities for children, we are also highlighting our main mandate, that waste is a valuable resource to be harnessed, and through collaboration and innovation, we can create a cleaner, greener future for all."
He noted how the group engages festival visitors, especially younger audiences, in learning about sustainability and waste management. "We believe that engaging younger audiences is key to building a sustainable future," by incorporating puzzles and creative colouring to educate and inspire younger generations on sustainability, he said.
Regarding Tadweer Group's solar-powered construction waste plant in Al Dhafra, he discussed its link to the festival's sustainability theme.
"Tadweer Group's Construction and Demolition Plant processes construction material to produce recycled products that can be used as road base aggregates and structured and non-structured backfill projects. This reduces the level of construction and demolition material being disposed of in Abu Dhabi's landfills, in line with our wider ambition to divert 80% of waste from the Emirate's landfill by 2030. This also reflects Tadweer Group's mandate and commitment to deriving value from waste."
He added that the facility, which is powered by 80-90% solar energy, recycles construction and demolition materials, cutting both costs and environmental impact.
Through community engagement, Tadweer is raising awareness of the 3 Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle – to encourage sustainable practices across the UAE.
Al Dhaheri pointed out Tadweer Group's role in the UAE's circular economy transition, featuring their initiatives to convert waste into valuable resources, such as waste-to-energy, a greenfield Material Recovery Facility, advanced recycling through Reverse Vending Machines and the Rewards App, in addition to the initiation of Waste to Zero, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
"Community involvement is at the heart of our sustainability strategy. We believe that educating and empowering individuals to take ownership of their environmental impact is key to driving change. Our objective is for the community to understand the importance of recycling, how to implement the 3Rs, and the national commitment to reduce waste. Through interactive activities and outreach, we encourage residents and visitors alike to adopt sustainable habits that benefit both the environment and society," he said.
