Abu Dhabi is leading the way in incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into a variety of industries, including travel, business, healthcare, food safety, and public accountability.

AI-powered airport systems, cutting-edge medical treatments, and business alliances are transforming public services, enhancing the emirate's overall quality of life, efficiency, and transparency.

Abu Dhabi's dedication to AI is changing urban life and positioning the city as a global leader in technological innovation.

Here is a brief look into the major AI initiatives in Abu Dhabi:

ADAA Smart Application
ADAA Smart Application, is a digital platform by the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (ADAA).

It includes the "Wajib" Platform, a smart app that enables individuals to report financial or administrative misconduct, promoting shared responsibility and awareness in preserving public resources.

ADAA utilises advanced digital platforms, AI technologies, and user-friendly data management to promote accountability, integrity, and trust, enhancing the emirate's reputation and financial systems while maintaining user confidentiality and privacy.

AI in Agriculture
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority is utilising AI and data science to analyse a viral disease affecting animals and develop smart inspection algorithms for food establishments, while also developing a sustainable agriculture plan, digital platform, and competition programmes.

Business
The Abu Dhabi Chamber has launched ChamberGPT, an AI chat platform for business-related queries. It offers quick answers in multiple languages, information on the business environment, licenses, economic sectors, and government initiatives, aiming to make Abu Dhabi the top choice for business and talent by 2025.

Abu Dhabi Housing Authority is implementing a robotic process automation system to expedite housing request procedures, increasing application processing capacity by 88% monthly.

This will reduce service delivery time, increase accuracy, and improve customer satisfaction.

Health
As for health concerns, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) has integrated AI into 11 healthcare centres to improve retinal image interpretation, benefiting diabetic patients and enabling early detection of retinopathy.

The AI-based service offers retinal scan results in just three seconds, forming part of the Patient-Centred Medical Home model.

Judicial System
Pertaining to the judicial matters, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has launched the first phase of its Justice Intelligence project, part of the UAE's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and UAE Centennial 2071.

The initiative aims to deliver digital transformation and make justice accessible to all, using AI and machine learning to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

The first phase will use advanced algorithms to predict case settlement times in criminal courts.

Abu Dhabi Judiciary has introduced an automated disbursement system for personal status files, marking the first of its kind in the region.

This system activates a virtual bank account for each executive file, allowing alimony deposits and disbursements without human intervention. The system modernises procedures and reduces transaction time to 10-30 minutes.

Media
Within the scope of media, Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) has partnered with Chinese Internet company Sogou Inc. to introduce an AI news anchor that will present news in Arabic and English.

The first Arabic-speaking news anchor will allow users to interact through face expressions.

The partnership aims to integrate technological innovation across media platforms, providing high-quality programming for audiences worldwide and enhancing ADM's presence and content quality.

Transport
Abu Dhabi International Airport has introduced the Smart Travel system powered by AI to streamline processes and shorten queues.

The system uses big data, AI, and passenger traffic modelling to optimise check-in, immigration counter staffing, and arrival and departure times.

It also benefits airlines, retailers, and employees. Abu Dhabi Mobility (AD Mobility), the Integrated Transport Centre's new brand identity, marks a new era in transportation, becoming a dynamic force shaping the future of movement.

The Intelligent Transport Management Centre (iTMC) is utilising AI alongside existing technologies to enhance operational efficiency, alleviate congestion, and optimise overall traffic management, ensuring a seamless transportation experience for all.

Additionally, Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre has signed agreements with Google to develop Project Green Light, an AI-based system to improve traffic light efficiency and reduce congestion.

Google's AI Platform will forecast traffic and predict congestion areas, providing real-time accident data.

The project aims to improve quality of life, reduce pollution, and enhance population well-being.

ADNOC
ADNOC has generated $500 million in value by deploying AI solutions in 2023, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 1 million tonnes.

The integration of over 30 AI tools across the company's value chain, from field operations to corporate decision-making, is part of a multi-year programme to enhance safety, reduce emissions, and increase value.

AI is also supporting ADNOC's net zero by 2045 ambition and near-zero methane emissions target.

Safety and Security Affairs
In the realm of safety and security affairs, Abu Dhabi Police's Saif bin Zayed Academy for Security and Policing Sciences is integrating AI and virtual reality into training, investing in digital infrastructure and modern technologies to foster excellence, creativity, innovation, and foresee future police, security, and administrative behaviour.

Abu Dhabi Terminals
Abu Dhabi Terminals has partnered with Microsoft to enhance container tracking and autonomous shuttle capabilities at Khalifa Port.

Azure's Artificial Intelligence Services will be used to introduce AI-based smart tracking solutions, ensuring 100% traceability of all handled containers.

The partnership aims to modernise the port environment, reduce carbon footprint, and improve operational efficiencies.

In the field of tourism, Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism has partnered with PayBy to implement a cashless, contactless payment system in the hospitality, retail, and tourism sectors, aiming to minimise touch points and support digital transformation.

Environmental Sector

Within the environmental sector, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is a pioneer in promoting innovation and modern technologies to tackle environmental challenges.

It uses AI to enhance decision-making processes and generate accurate data for policy development and project monitoring.

The EAD has launched several innovation programmes since 1996, including the first environmental database in Abu Dhabi, the world's largest strategic water reservoir, and the first environmental observatory in the UAE.

In 2022, EAD launched the BAADR mobile application and Eltezam digital system.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council has launched Rasid, a platform using AI and advanced technologies to monitor wastewater in partnership with G42 Healthcare.

The platform aims to improve operational effectiveness, enhance wastewater quality, and advance environmental and health monitoring in Abu Dhabi.
