Trademarks registered in the UAE in the first quarter (Q1) of this year witnessed a record growth of 63.8%, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.
The data indicated an increase in the total number of new trademarks registered for Q1 of this year to 4,610 trademarks, compared to 2,813 trademarks in Q1 2023. The trademarks registered during March alone amounted to around 2,018 new trademarks, while January and February recorded a total of 2,592 brands combined.
The growth of brands confirms the UAE’s position as a regional and global centre for major companies based in the country to manufacture and export to countries around the world.
A wide range of industries saw new brand activity in March, including technology, sports, healthcare, automotive, finance, real estate, and education.
In recent years, the UAE has implemented strategic initiatives to cultivate a business-friendly environment. This includes developing world-class infrastructure that rivals that of leading developed nations.
These efforts have demonstrably bolstered the UAE’s competitiveness, as evidenced by its positive rankings in reports published by various reputable international institutions.
The Trademarks Department at the Ministry of Economy is responsible for implementing procedures related to receiving and examining trademark registration applications, taking procedures for following up on advertising and objection to the mark and registration, issuing registration certificates, and other procedures related to the work of the sector.
