The Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Code.org, a leading organisation that aims to encourage people, particularly school students to learn computer science.

The MoU represents a pivotal step in consolidating a robust partnership within the fields of technology and computer science to enhance technological methods and practices, advance initiatives and projects that facilitate the widespread integration of technology and foster the cultivation of skills essential for leading the digital future of the UAE.

The MoU was signed by Saqr bin Ghalib, the Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office, and Fran Garcia del Pozo, CEO and founder of Generacion Code and EMEA Director of Code.org at CodersHQ in Global DevSlam.

Saqr bin Ghalib said, "In the UAE, we are committed to fostering a robust digital infrastructure within our nation through strategic partnerships, cultivating both national and international talent in digital fields. We aim to facilitate collaborative efforts with industry leaders to establish interconnected networks that unite prominent institutions, promoting the exchange of expertise and the dissemination of successful practices.

Fran Garcia del Pozo said, “We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office, following our successful ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Education which was announced in February.

"Moreover, industry leaders such as e& and Majid Al Futtaim have already joined our ecosystem. The cooperation between prominent public and private sector entities is key to establishing computer science and AI as cornerstones of the UAE's educational system, positioning the Nation as a global reference in the technology sector”.

The collaboration seeks to enhance the foundation for future partnerships, fostering essential cooperation among diverse corporations, educational institutions, and thought leaders within related fields. Furthermore, it aims to increase awareness of the significance of coding and computer science within society through the globally recognised 'Hour of Code' campaign, which has been launched by Code.org and has the participation of prominent global figures from the political, social, and economic fields.

The Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office will collaborate with Code.org to enhance and support the campaign in alignment with the objectives of UAE Codes Day, an annual event that takes place on October 29.

This event aspires to engage students and the broader community in an awareness campaign aimed at fostering the coding community within the nation and enhancing a knowledge-based society, enabling it to assert its global competitiveness through the digitisation of diverse sectors across the UAE.

The MoU also aims to enhance the educational prospects of students across diverse age groups in the UAE. This will be achieved through the implementation of a comprehensive training workshop in the field of coding, administered by a specialised team of experts to broaden students' capabilities and elevate their overall awareness levels.

Global Dev Slam activities were held at Global Gitex 2023, which was organized from October 16 to 20 as a global event specialised in advanced technological fields, including artificial intelligence, generative artificial intelligence, Web 3, and other emerging areas that have played a major role in shaping our world today.
