Ticket prices to India on Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express just got expensive following a hike in fuel surcharge by the airlines across some international destinations, including the UAE. This would mean travelers from the UAE would pay an additional $55 or Dh200 for one-way flights.

The airline said the decision to raise the surcharge was necessitated by the hike in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices largely driven by developments in the Middle East since February.

“ATF prices have witnessed significant volatility in recent months, driven largely by geopolitical developments and sustained pressure on global energy markets. The latest increase in fuel prices has further elevated operating costs for airlines, with fuel continuing to account for a substantial proportion of overall airline expenditure,” the airline said in a statement

It said both Air India and Air India Express have undertaken a “calibrated revision of fuel surcharges'', and added that the adjustments intended to partially offset the increased cost burden while enabling the two airlines to continue providing reliable and high-quality services across their networks.

Meanwhile, the Tata-owned airline said it will suspend operations to Saudi Arabia from October 10 after drone attacks by the Houthi militants.
