ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Capital Group, a global active investment manager with $3.6 trillion in assets under management, has secured a Financial Services Permission from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of ADGM, allowing it to operate as a regulated investment manager in the international financial centre.

The approval authorises Capital Group Investment Management Co Ltd to conduct trading, investment management and distribution activities within ADGM.

The licence follows Capital Group’s announcement in May 2026 that it planned to establish its first Middle East office in Abu Dhabi. Since then, the firm has relocated associates from North America, Europe and Asia to the UAE, bringing investment, operational and client-facing capabilities closer to clients and opportunities in the region.

Benno Klingenberg-Timm, Head of Abu Dhabi Office and Head of Institutional for Europe and Asia at Capital Group, said the regulated presence would bring the firm closer to its clients and to investment opportunities across the Middle East.

“From day one, we will have a meaningful presence, with on-the-ground investment, operational and client-facing capabilities,” he said.

“Much like the opening of our Singapore office in 1989, we’re bringing together the full breadth of Capital Group’s expertise in Abu Dhabi, reflecting our confidence in the region’s long-term growth.”

Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of ADGM, said Capital Group’s decision to establish a presence in Abu Dhabi reflected the strength of the emirate’s financial ecosystem and ADGM’s growing position as an international financial centre for global institutions seeking long-term opportunities across the region.

Mike Gitlin, President and CEO of Capital Group, said the Middle East was strategically important to the company and its clients.

“Securing our regulatory licence in Abu Dhabi reflects our long-term commitment to the region and our conviction in its continued development as a leading international financial centre,” Gitlin said.

Capital Group said its local presence in Abu Dhabi is expected to grow over time in line with business and client needs.

The company has more than 9,000 associates and 35 offices worldwide and manages $3.6 trillion in assets for wealth management and institutional clients.
