ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
Singapore-based investment company Temasek plans to open an office in Abu Dhabi in the first half of 2027 as it expands its presence in the Middle East, the company said in a statement.
The office is subject to statutory approvals and will serve as a regional hub for Temasek and some of its portfolio companies, which plan to co-locate there. It will support closer engagement with regional institutions, the development of long-term partnerships and the pursuit of investment opportunities.
Temasek also plans to establish an office in Riyadh and engage with institutions in Qatar and other Middle Eastern markets. The company said the expansion would improve its access to opportunities across the region as well as in Central Asia and Africa.
Temasek and its portfolio companies see opportunities arising from economic transformation and national diversification programmes across the Middle East, particularly in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the statement said.
“The Middle East is an important part of Temasek’s global network. The pace and ambition of economic transformation across the region are remarkable, and its long-term fundamentals remain highly attractive,” said Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings.
“We see strong alignment between the region’s priorities and Temasek’s own areas of focus. Our relationships across the Middle East — particularly in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar — have been built over many years through our partnerships, co-investments and portfolio companies, and we look forward to deepening them further.”
He described the expansion as a natural next step that would help the company develop new partnerships in the region.
Chia Song Hwee, Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Global Investments and Chairman for the Middle East and Africa, said having a local presence would strengthen Temasek’s engagement with regional partners.
“Being on the ground in the Middle East will strengthen engagement with our partners and enhance access to investment opportunities for Temasek and our portfolio companies throughout the region and beyond to Central Asia and Africa,” Chia said.
“Equally, it allows us to bring complementary expertise from across our ecosystem to these markets, expanding pathways to create lasting value with like-minded partners.”
Chia was appointed Chairman for the Middle East and Africa with effect from September 1, 2026. He will provide senior leadership and oversee Temasek’s engagement and long-term growth in the two regions.
Ankit Khemka, Managing Director for the region, will continue to lead the company’s regional strategy and expansion.
The addition of Abu Dhabi and Riyadh will expand Temasek’s global network to 15 offices across 11 countries in 2027. The company currently operates 13 offices in nine countries.
Headquartered in Singapore, Temasek had a net portfolio value of S$518 billion, equivalent to $401 billion, as of March 31, 2026.
