Royal Jordanian Airlines has launched a direct service between Abu Dhabi and Aqaba, expanding air connectivity between the UAE and Jordan and providing travellers with direct access to the Red Sea city, according to a statement.

The airline will operate two flights a week on the new route, taking the number of direct services across its UAE-Jordan network to nearly 40 a week.

Royal Jordanian currently operates 21 weekly flights between Dubai and Amman, seven between Sharjah and Amman and nine between Abu Dhabi and Amman, in addition to the new Abu Dhabi-Aqaba service.

The route provides travellers from Abu Dhabi with direct access to Aqaba, a major tourism destination in southern Jordan and a gateway to the country’s Golden Triangle, comprising Aqaba, Petra and Wadi Rum, the statement said.

The launch was announced at an event in Dubai that also introduced ExploRJordan, Royal Jordanian’s tourism campaign promoting travel experiences across Jordan.

The campaign highlights the country’s historical and cultural attractions, as well as its nature, adventure, beach and leisure offerings. The event featured destinations including Aqaba, Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Amman.

Karim Makhlouf, Chief Commercial Officer of Royal Jordanian Airlines, said the expanded connectivity would give travellers greater flexibility to explore Jordan, either through Amman or by flying directly to Aqaba and the Red Sea.

He said the ExploRJordan campaign was intended to encourage travellers to explore destinations and experiences beyond Jordan’s traditional landmarks and discover the country’s wider tourism offering.

Royal Jordanian said the new service formed part of its efforts to expand its regional network, strengthen links with key markets and support Jordan’s position as a regional and international tourism destination.

The airline is also expanding its network, modernising its fleet and enhancing the passenger experience as part of its wider strategy to strengthen its position among travellers flying to and from Jordan, the statement added.
