The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) participated in the sixth meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the GCC Central Bank Governors’ Committee, which discussed ways to strengthen financial cooperation among Gulf countries.
The meeting was held virtually on Sunday, the CBUAE said in a statement. The CBUAE delegation was led by Ebrahim Obaid Al Zaabi, Assistant Governor for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability. It also included Mohamed Hussain Al Marzooqi, Head of International and Domestic Affairs, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, the committee discussed recent monetary and financial developments in GCC countries and reviewed current and planned initiatives under the joint GCC work programme for central banks.
Participants also explored ways to strengthen international cooperation in the monetary and banking sectors while drawing on global experience and best practices, the statement said.
The committee reviewed the latest developments related to an agreement to link payment systems across GCC countries.
It also considered recommendations from technical committees and working groups covering banking supervision and regulation, payment systems and cybersecurity.
The meeting reviewed efforts undertaken by GCC countries to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism, with the aim of supporting stronger and more resilient financial systems across the region.
The CBUAE said its participation reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting joint economic and monetary integration among GCC countries and facilitating the exchange of views and expertise.
These efforts are intended to strengthen the stability and growth of the region’s banking and financial sector, the statement added.
