TAQA Water Solutions is building a Dh288 million emergency water lagoon in Abu Dhabi, with the construction contract awarded to NMDC Infra, a subsidiary of NMDC Group.
In a stock market disclosure, NMDC Group said the proposed water lagoon will have a capacity of 1 million cubic metres.
NMDC Infra is tasked with constructing the lagoon, including inlet and outlet structures, installation of HDPE pipelines, and installation of pumps, valves, and associated mechanical systems.
The project is expected to be delivered over 24 months, the disclosure said.
The latest contract adds to NMDC Infra’s growing profile as an engineering, procurement and construction player in the UAE’s infrastructure and water sectors.
The company has also been associated with the planned Fujairah I Independent Water Producer project, a Dh1.046 billion seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility being developed by EtihadWE in partnership with NMDC Infra and Lantania Aguas.
The Fujairah project, announced during Make It In the Emirates, will have a contracted production capacity of 60 million imperial gallons per day and storage capacity equivalent to 18 hours of production.
The plant will be located within the Port of Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman and is expected to be delivered over about 30 months, covering civil works, process systems and commissioning.
The two projects underline NMDC Infra’s expanding role in water infrastructure, spanning emergency water-management facilities, desalination capacity and large-scale civil works.
The Fujairah desalination project also marked the start of a new collaboration between NMDC Infra and Lantania Aguas, following NMDC Infra’s acquisition of a 51% stake in the Spanish water specialist.
Haris Giatsos, Chief Executive Officer of NMDC Infra, told Aletihad in a recent interview that desalination is a key area of focus for the company as it responds to growing market demand.
“Desalination is a key area of focus as we respond to growing market demand, and we are committed to supporting the UAE by developing reliable, efficient water infrastructure,” he said.
NMDC Infra describes itself as a leading EPC contractor specialising in civil and turnkey projects.
The company says it has a team of 800 employees, has completed more than 700 projects, and operates a state-of-the-art precast production line.
Its project experience spans luxury properties, resorts, sports arenas, manufacturing facilities, labour camps, schools, port facilities and other structures.
