ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF) on Tuesday convened at the United Nations Office in Geneva to mark the International Day of Human Fraternity.

The international day commemorates the historic 2019 signing of the “Human Fraternity Document” by the late Pope Francis of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayeb, in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2019. The landmark event has since catalysed several international initiatives aimed at bridging religious and cultural divides.

Diplomats, former heads of state and senior representatives of faith and leading institutions attended the gathering, which aligns with the core mission of the UN in Geneva as a platform for preventive diplomacy and peace.

In her opening remarks, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva said: “Human fraternity and coexistence are not ideals we admire from a distance, they are responsibilities we live with every day.”

During the event, participants explored how to operationalise mutual respect as a foundation for global stability and how inclusive leadership across all dimensions of society can foster a genuine and practical sense of shared global responsibility. The dialogue aimed to move from shared values to shared strategies for cooperation.

The Secretary General of the HCHF highlighted the operational vision driving the dialogue. “Human fraternity is a simple but essential principle. Every person matters, everywhere. Dignity is universal,” he said.
