ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Integrated Biofuels Company, a subsidiary of Lootah Biofuels – the first commercial biodiesel producer in the Middle East and the Gulf region – has officially launched its operational and commercial activities at its new facility in Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD).

The milestone reflects the UAE’s commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions and supporting circular economy initiatives, while meeting the growing demand for low-emission, eco-friendly fuels.

Yousif bin Saeed Lootah, Chairman and CEO of Lootah Biofuels, stated: “The establishment of this plant aligns with the wise leadership’s vision and the UAE’s strategic direction in environmental protection. This project supports national efforts to reduce carbon emissions and provide innovative solutions for sustainable energy.”

He added: “This project is not just an industrial expansion; it is a national responsibility driven by our belief in contributing to the UAE’s journey towards a greener, more sustainable future. We are proud to play a role in achieving the nation’s Net Zero 2050 goals.”

The new plant is designed to convert used cooking oil and organic waste into clean energy products, including biodiesel, bioethanol, advanced renewable fuels, Sustainable Bio-Yacht Fuel (SBYF), and Sustainable Racing Fuel (SRF). Leveraging principles of the circular economy as well as R&D, the company ensures its products are certified under global standards.

The project has been developed in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD) and KEZAD, which have provided world-class integrated infrastructure to enable efficient storage, transport, and distribution of biofuels. This strategic partnership is built on a shared vision to enhance green industries and cement Abu Dhabi’s position as a leader in renewable energy.

Empowering Emirati Talent

The company’s workforce includes a number of skilled Emirati women working across operations and management departments. This reflects Lootah Group’s commitment to empowering Emirati women, and supporting their active participation in vital industrial sectors, in line with the UAE’s efforts to promote gender balance and encourage women to pursue careers in industry on equal
footing with men.

The approach also aligns with Lootah Biofuels’ strategic vision to enhance national talent development, with a particular focus on recruiting and empowering Emirati women, while fostering a modern, innovative work environment. The company’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that investing in people is the foundation of sustainable development.

This project represents a national model for sustainable energy and marks a strategic step in responding to the growing demand for alternative fuels in the region. By increasing production capacity, expanding distribution channels, and redefining the quality of biofuels produced in the UAE, the initiative reinforces the country’s role in advancing clean energy solutions.

Integrated Biofuels Company builds on the legacy of Lootah Biofuels, a pioneer in clean energy, by expanding operations into Abu Dhabi following its success in Dubai. The company will continue to invest in innovation, technology development, and Emirati talent, while contributing to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy and the growth of the green economy.

As a subsidiary of Lootah Biofuels, Integrated Biofuels Company was founded with the vision of scaling up biofuel production in Abu Dhabi. Its facility converts used cooking oil into biofuel certified to the highest international standards, supplying clean and eco-friendly fuel to both industrial and government sectors.
