President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would not extend an August 1 deadline for higher US tariffs to take effect on dozens of economies, a day after he appeared to signal flexibility on the date.
Stressing that the United States would start collecting tariffs on imports from various countries on August 1, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post: "There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change."
The countries he sent letters to include:
- Japan (25%)
- Korea (25%)
- South Africa (30%)
- Kazakhstan (25%)
- Laos (40%)
- Malaysia (25%)
- Myanmar (40%)
- Tunisia (25%)
- Bosnia and Herzegovina (30%)
- Indonesia (32%)
- Bangladesh (35%)
- Serbia (35%)
- Cambodia (36%)
- Thailand (36%)
