Indian airline Akasa Air has launched daily direct flights connecting Abu Dhabi with Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, starting March 1.

The new routes complement Akasa Air’s existing daily service between Mumbai and Abu Dhabi, which commenced in July 2024, according to a statement from the airline.

Abu Dhabi has emerged as a major destination for Indian travellers, driven by its proximity, rich cultural appeal, and larger than life experiential offerings. The airline’s expansion is a response to the strong demand for UAE travel from Indian tourists and the positive reception of its Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route.

Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air, said: “We are thrilled to ramp up our network to the UAE with the addition of daily direct flights connecting Abu Dhabi with two prominent Indian cities – Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. The expansion is in line with our aim of making air travel accessible for a greater number of Indians by enhancing international air connectivity.”

Akasa Air currently operates flights to 22 domestic and five international destinations, including Doha (Qatar), Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Abu Dhabi (UAE), and Kuwait City (Kuwait).

The airline commenced its first commercial flight on August 7, 2022 on a domestic route and launched international operations on March 28, 2024, with a non-stop service from Mumbai to Doha. This milestone made it the first Indian airline to begin international flights within 19 months of its launch.

Akasa Air operates 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed an order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aeroplanes to support its expanding network.
