In an era of rapid digital transformation, the aviation industry is more interconnected than ever. With this increased connectivity comes a greater need for robust cybersecurity measures.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced the publication of the 'National Civil Aviation Cybersecurity Guidelines,' a vital framework for safeguarding the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of aviation systems for its civil aviation stakeholders.

Director General of GCAA, HE Saif Al Suwaidi commented, “We are pleased to issue the National Civil Aviation Cybersecurity Guidelines, which align with the UAE Civil Aviation Cybersecurity Policy. These guidelines provide recommendations and best practices to assist aviation stakeholders in the UAE in developing their cybersecurity programmes, ensuring compliance with the national mandate, and safeguarding against ever-evolving cyber threats. As a dynamic document, it will be regularly updated to stay ahead of emerging risks and to ensure the resilience of the civil aviation system in the UAE."

These guidelines provide a comprehensive framework addressing the unique challenges and complexities facing the cybersecurity environment in the aviation sector, as well as the appropriate tools to develop a holistic approach to protecting the sector against cyber threats.

They also aim to enhance the ability to respond to and recover from cyber incidents in a timely manner without causing significant disruptions to the civil aviation system.

The guidelines clarify the roles and responsibilities of cybersecurity in civil aviation, particularly in the field of information and communications technology.

They enable partners to identify critical systems and data, manage risks, protect important information and communications systems and data, ensure the security of the supply chain, respond effectively to incidents, and foster a cybersecurity culture in civil aviation through awareness, training, and learning.
