US President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement with Iran has been completed, which will allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump said: "The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all."

He added: "I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade."

Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran following intensive talks.

In a post on X, Sharif said: "Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the peace deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been reached. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon."

Sharif added that the official signing ceremony will take place in Switzerland on June 19.

He said that, once the agreement comes into effect, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings during the week.
