SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has published a seasonal climate outlook for the period spanning from August to October 2024.

Issued by the Climate Section of the Meteorology Department, the forecast is based on data from the World Meteorological Organization and the International Research Institute for Climate and Society.

In the UAE, temperatures this season are forecast to be above average, with an expected rise of about 0.5°C to 1.0°C and a high probability of more than 70 percent.

In August, the UAE is expected to witness above normal temperatures with a likelihood of 60 percent rise, about 0.5°C to 1°C higher than the average.

The rise in temperature is mainly attributed to the spread of southwest thermal lows, especially due to the India monsoon low pressure system.

Moreover, rainfall in most parts of the UAE is forecast to be above normal levels, with a probability of over 40 percent during this season.

However, the northeastern parts are likely to see near-normal conditions.

In August, eastern mountains and southern areas are forecast to see cloud formation and rain due to the extension of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, accompanied by convective rainy clouds in the first half.

This month is characterised by significant land and sea breeze circulations, with the country experiencing southeasterly and northerly winds.

Fresh southerly and northwesterly winds can cause dust to blow over exposed areas. The mean air temperature ranges between 34.7°C and 36.5°C, with mean maximum temperatures of 40.9°C to 43.2°C, and mean minimum temperatures of 29.3°C to 31°C, as per the forecast.

Relative humidity averages 47 percent, with highs of 63 percent to 80 percent and lows of 17 percent to 32 percent. Wind speeds are forecast to average 12 km/h.
