As the official sponsor of the 20th Liwa Date Festival, Tadweer Group is taking part in the event showcasing their latest projects and hosting a slew of workshops on agriculture recycling.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the Liwa Date Festival is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.

Running until July 28 in Liwa, Al Dhafra Region, the festival pays tribute to the historical significance of palm trees, supports local date palm farmers and other farmers. The event also features traditional activities like the date and fruit mazayna (competition) and model farm competitions, handcrafts, and more.

Tadweer Group’s booth at the event features interactive activities, contests, and educational sessions focused on the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle).

It also promotes waste segregation, demonstrates their efforts to divert waste from landfills, educates the public about recycling, and underlines sustainable practices.

Speaking to Aletihad, Fatima Al Harmoudi, Head of Community Engagement at Tadweer Group, said that the group’s involvement in the Liwa Dates Festival is as significant as it was in previous years.

“In fact, this year is even more creative and innovative. Each year, we have a specific concept for building our pavilion,” she said.

“We used the colours of the Liwa Desert and Al Dhafra, as well as the colours of the castles in Liwa-sand, castles, and the palm trunk itself. Our entire booth is built from recycled materials. All the wood, even the fabrics, are recycled. We can say that 99% of the entire pavilion is made from recycled materials,” Al Harmoudi said.

She noted that the group is hosting a series of workshops focusing on recycling palm produce. It also covers handicraft workshops, where participants are introduced to creating artworks from sustainable materials.

In the women’s section, visitors create bouquets from palm fronds and fashion shopping bags from burlap fabric sourced from palm trees, promoting “awareness through application”.

For children, electronic boards are available to draw recyclable containers, encouraging “awareness through drawing and colouring.”

Another section features interactive envelopes with questions about palm tree and date recycling, promoting the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, with age-appropriate gifts awarded to participants.

Farmers also stop by the Group’s stand, showing a strong interest in organic fertiliser production. They enquire about agricultural waste processing and the types of fertilisers suitable for date palms, other trees, and small crops.

Farm waste begins its journey with collection and transport to designated points. It is then transferred to factories, where they are transformed into high-quality fertiliser, meeting ISO quality standards. Finally, this fertiliser reaches the market and is used in plant nurseries, enriching soil quality, the Group said.

Moving on to the compost factory, the Abu Dhabi Compost Plant (ADCP), managed by Tadweer Group and Barari Natural Resources, recycles organic green and animal waste to produce high-quality, environmentally friendly compost.

These include Barari Green Compost (from treated green waste), Barari Manure Compost (from treated animal waste), Barari Mix Compost (from treated green and animal waste), and Barari Poultry Compost (from treated poultry waste). Specifically, Barari Green Compost is suitable for date palm trees, at a rate of 30kg per tree, according to the Group.
