The New York Knicks wrapped up their trip to Abu Dhabi in style, defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 99-84 in the second and final game of the NBA Abu Dhabi at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island on Saturday night.
The Knicks delivered a commanding performance as two of the NBA’s most storied franchises tried to tune up in the pair of pre-season exhibition games.
The sold-out Etihad Arena buzzed with energy as a glittering lineup of international celebrities turned out for the game and a plethora of activities was planned on and off the court over the past week and leading up to the games.
Among those in attendance were British musician Noel Robinson, actors Ranveer Singh, Victoria Justice (also singer), Adrien Brody, Rappers Central Cee and Badshah, along with martial arts fighter Cyril Gane, who is due to fight at the same venue later this month at the UFC 321.
Philadelphia 76ers coach Norris praised the team’s experience in Abu Dhabi, calling it “a wonderful trip” that delivered both technical and cultural value.
“We set specific goals to achieve during this trip, and I’m pleased with how the players responded. We had a productive week, showing many positive indicators in areas we’ve been working to improve,” he said.
New York Knicks coach Mike Brown expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s hospitality and the experience as a whole. “We were warmly welcomed everywhere we went. Abu Dhabi is an ideal destination for our team and our families. We’ve gained a lot from this trip and will take the momentum home as we continue to improve every day,” he said.
Point guard Jalen Brunson described playing in Abu Dhabi as “a unique experience by all standards. The atmosphere was incredible, and the crowd’s energy was there from the first whistle.
“We enjoyed the practices, the competition, and even the activities off the court. This trip brought the team closer together, and I’m proud that we were able to come away with two wins.”
This was the fourth year of hosting NBA Abu Dhabi, once again cementing the emirate's reputation on the world basketball map, combining elite athletic performance with vibrant cultural exchange in a setting that continues to attract fans and players from around the globe.
