ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
The UAE Muay Thai Championship for both men and women concluded on a high note after three action-packed days at the Space 42 Arena in Abu Dhabi, setting new records with 824 fighters from 61 clubs competing for top honours.
Home favourites Tiger Gym and the Abu Dhabi Muay Thai (ADMT) clubs finished one-two in the overall tally for the competition with a strong international flavour. The event showcased competitors ranging in age from eight to 23 years, battling across multiple weight divisions in a mass display of skill and endurance.
The final day witnessed 173 thrilling bouts across four rings, with Tiger Gym topping the medal tally among clubs at the end of it all with a haul of 34 (16 gold, 10 silver, 8 bronze). ADMT came in second place with their fighters amassing 31 medals (16 gold, 7 silver, 8 bronze). They were followed by international athletes on the podium.
Like Tiger Gym, Dragon Team Uzbekistan finished with 34 medals as well but with lesser medals of the yellow variety (15 gold, 15 silver, 4 bronze) in their breakup to take third place. The national team of Iraq came in fourth with 14 medals (9 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze).
Organized by the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, the championship reinforced the nation’s position as a solid venue to promote the sport. It attracted fighters from across the UAE, as well as international participants from Uzbekistan, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon, Algeria, Palestine, Libya, and Tunisia.
With the Federation’s strategic vision and ambitious event calendar, the championship played a pivotal role in scouting for new talent, fostering growth, and providing a competitive platform for athletes to shine on the international stage.
The UAE Federation Chairman and President of the Asian and Arab Muay Thai Federations Abdullah Al Neyadi expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, for his support to the event. He also thanked the federations, clubs, coaches and the athletes for their participation in the right earnest.
