The US Department of Defense on Friday began releasing the first batch of previously classified files on Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).

This marks the first release of "never-before-seen files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP)," the Pentagon said, adding that "the American people can now access the federal government's declassified UAP files instantly."

A Pentagon website dedicated to UAP features black-and-white photographs of flying objects as well as older documents from government departments and agencies.

The first release comprises over 160 files.

US President Donald Trump in February had announced the release of files on "highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters." Now the first batch has been made available for public viewing, he said on his Truth Social platform.

Trump added that he has instructed his administration to "identify and provide Government files related to Alien and Extraterrestrial Life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and Unidentified Flying Objects."

"Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves,' Have Fun and Enjoy," Trump wrote.

Trump in February directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as well as other departments and agencies, to identify and release relevant material based "on the tremendous interest shown."
