Egypt strongly condemned on Sunday the Israeli strike that targeted a school run by the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) on Saturday, which killed at least 16 people and injured 50 others.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's, carried by Ahram Online, Cairo denounced Israel's ongoing violations of international law and international humanitarian law, calling on Israel to fulfil its obligations as an occupying power, cease targeting defenceless civilians in Gaza, and provide protection and safe zones for them.

In addition, Egypt emphasised the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire throughout the Gaza Strip to end the humanitarian crises endured by the residents, resulting in the death of thousands of women and children.

Egypt also called on Israel to heed international efforts to halt the ongoing war on Gaza, resume humanitarian efforts, and ensure the unimpeded delivery of relief aid through all land crossings into Gaza.
