Paid parking will be introduced in Abu Dhabi's Musaffah area from January 12, Q Mobility, operator of the emirate’s public parking system Mawaqif, announced on Monday.
The first phase will require motorists parking in Musaffah’s M1, M2, M3, M4, and M24 sectors, adjacent to Al Rawdah Road, to pay a Dh2 hourly parking fee for standard parking spaces.
“Q Mobility has announced the activation of the first phase of the paid parking system in Musaffah, starting from 12 January 2026. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and reduce random parking,” the company said in a statement.
The rollout of Mawaqif will see reduced congestion and improved traffic flow in Musaffah, allowing for easier access to industrial and commercial facilities in the area, Q Mobility said.
A total of 4,680 parking spaces in Musaffah will be activated in the first phase, including designated spots for people of determination, ensuring accessibility and convenience for all users.
Motorists can pay their parking fees through the TAMM and Darb apps.
Abu Dhabi first launched its paid parking scheme in 2009. Regulated by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Mawaqif aimed to curb traffic congestion in the capital. The initial phases focused on areas within Abu Dhabi island, where it transformed parking behaviours and enhanced traffic flow.
The system, with its distinctive turquoise-coloured bays, offers motorists a choice of standard and premium parking bays — priced at Dh2 and Dh3 per hour respectively — as well as fixed-term parking permits.
Q Mobility, a wholly owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi investment and holding company ADQ, now manages and operates Mawaqif.
Last month, the company introduced paid parking to the commercial sectors of Mohamed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, specifically M9, M10, M11, M12.
