Abu Dhabi Police has warned motorists against driving behaviours that cause excessive noise and disturbance, particularly in residential neighbourhoods.

In a social media post, the Police said noisy driving disrupts the peace, and can cause distress to other road users.

"We strongly advise against operating exessively noisy vehicles, particularly in residential neighbourhoods. This behaviour significantly disrupts the peace of residents, especially children and the elderly. We urge the public to report such cases by calling 999," the Police said.

It also urged motorcyclists to comply with safety regulations, to refrain from disrupting people gathered in campsites, and to avoid making unauthorised modifications to their bikes.

The Police further called on residents to call 999 and report noisy vehicles in residential areas.

"Enjoying the winter season should not come at the expense of disturbing your community," the Police urged.

Under Article 20 of the Traffic and Road Safety Law, driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise is punishable with a Dh2,000 fine and 12 traffic points.

Meanwhile, Article 73, which covers unauthorised modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis, carries a Dh1,000 fine, 12 traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

The Police added that Law No. 5 of 2020 on vehicle impoundment in Abu Dhabi will also be enforced, setting the release fee at Dh10,000. Vehicles are held for up to three months and referred for public auction if the fees remain unpaid.
