Students submit creative projects for UAE Innovates Award 2025

Students who have entered for the UAE Innovates Award 2025 have shared details about their creative projects with Aletihad.The awards initiative, which was launched in 2021 under the auspices of the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, celebrates innovation in the UAE, and invited the public to participate in the awards by nominating innovative projects by individuals and organisations.

A submission deadline of February 17 was set for entrants to present their concepts.

The award categories are: Most Innovative Use of Resources; Most Innovative Digital Transformation; Most Impactful Social Innovation; Most Innovative Government Process; Most Innovative Disruptive Project; and Most Innovative Project in Sustainability

The judging criteria is: Novelty; replicability; impact; rapid response; proactivity; and agility.

By giving their students the chance to showcase their creative ideas, the Higher Colleges of Technology reaffirmed its role in boosting the UAE's educational standing and demonstrating the nation's commitment to fostering innovation as a vital component of its development.

Hamad Al Ameri is a student majoring in Networks and Systems at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi. He told Aletihad: "The Emirates Innovates 2025 initiative gave me the opportunity to present my ideas and project, which is the invention of an advanced robot that can speak all the languages of the world and targets tourists coming from all countries who face difficulty with the Arabic language.

"I had the opportunity to participate in the Emirates Innovates 2025 initiative, and I am happy to present this innovation to help enhance communication between people, whether by providing instant translation or facilitating communication between people who speak different languages, as speaking robots can contribute to improving efficiency in various private and government sectors."

Hameed Fahad, a Business Administration student at the Higher Colleges of Technology, said: "My project is an AI robot in financial services and targets the financial services sector. It is very useful for the future and helps improve the accuracy of analyses and forecasts.

"The AI robot provides accurate financial analyses and reliable forecasts, which helps in making better decisions and also helps in saving time and effort. The AI robot can automate many financial processes, saving time and effort for analysts and investors."

Cybersecurity major, Salem Musabih's submission is an advanced programme that uses robots to protect homes from fires. 

"The programme works as follows: High-tech smart sensors are distributed throughout the house, these devices are capable of detecting smoke, high temperature, flames and even dangerous gases that may precede the outbreak of a fire. 

"Despite the challenges, the future of fire safety technology looks promising, and with the continued development of robots and artificial intelligence, these programmes are expected to become more effective and widespread in homes and buildings in the near future."

The prizes include Dh80,000 for first place, Dh60,000 for second place, and Dh40,000 for third place. A special category prize of Dh20,000 will be awarded for the Best Sustainable Design, Reconnecting Emerging Technologies, and Most Impactful Solution for Society.

The closing ceremony of UAE Innovates 2025 will take place on February 26.
