The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) on Friday participated in a series of discussions and events as part of the COP29 agenda, highlighting the UAE's proactive approach to integrating sustainability into its national agenda and its strategic partnerships to promote nature-based solutions for climate transition.
Eng. Mohammed Saeed Alnuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment emphasised in a keynote speech during the 'Sustainable Trade Africa 2024' side event the necessity of incorporating climate adaptation strategies across all sectors. He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to building a climate-friendly and growth-enhancing economy, citing climate-responsible corporate pledges and strategic partnerships with countries like Ghana to bolster nature-based solutions for climate transition.
Alnuaimi stated: "Our recent $30 million partnership with the Republic of Ghana aims to enhance nature-based climate and community development solutions."
Additionally, Alnuaimi participated in the ministerial meeting on the Global Methane Pledge at COP29, addressing progress in reducing methane emissions. He articulated the pledge’s critical role in driving global efforts to cut methane emissions across sectors such as energy, food, agriculture, and waste.
During his participation, Alnuaimi visited several country pavilions at the global event and met with representatives from participating countries' ministries.
Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Assistant Undersecretary for the Green Development and Climate Change sector at MOCCAE delivered the opening remarks in a panel discussion that explored the role of carbon pricing in accelerating decarbonisation efforts.
Alhaj underscored the importance of evaluating the feasibility of carbon pricing design policies and various schemes in driving sectors toward adopting technological solutions and innovations.
Alhaj delivered a message on behalf of Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al-Dhahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, during the 2nd High-Level Ministerial Dialogue for Culture-Based Climate Action at COP29. In the message, she stated the climate crisis threatens the cultural landscape, noting that culture can be a powerful driver of climate action.
