The UAE Antarctic Research Programme Workshop by National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) will be held from October 15-17, 2024.
The primary objectives of the UAE Antarctic Research Programme Workshop are:
Enhance Understanding
Facilitate understanding of the current global research priorities and activities in Antarctica and the role of Antarctic systems in climate change and global climate processes among the UAE research and policy community.
Promote Scientific Collaboration
Facilitate networking and collaboration among UAE researchers, institutions, and policymakers with those institutions already involved in Antarctic research.
Develop an Antarctic Research Program
Develop a comprehensive understanding of potential priority areas for UAE's involvement in Antarctic studies.
Capacity Building
Identify opportunities and partnerships for building UAE capacity and expertise in Antarctic research through collaborative activities, training and knowledge exchange.
Workshop Themes:
Policy and Governance
Brief overview of international policies, treaties, and governance mechanisms related to Antarctic research.
Current Research Priorities in the Antarctic
Overview of key research activities in the Antarctic by major organisations, and institutions/countries.
UAE Antarctic Research Programme
Open discussions on an initial draft of the priorities for UAE Antarctic Research Programme engagement with the Global Research Community.
