The empowerment and inclusion of people of determination is a cornerstone of the UAE’s national vision, said Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO).

His remarks were made on Monday during the opening ceremony of the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR) 2024, hosted by the UAE capital Abu Dhabi under the theme “Work and Employment”.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, the congress aims to address the challenges faced by people of determination in the job market, in addition to building awareness of the wide range of opportunities available for them.

It is organised by the ZHO in partnership with Rehabilitation International (RI Global) and the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
Al Humaidan noted that this event presents an opportunity to drive transformative change, ensuring “a more inclusive and empowered future for all” through collaborations and knowledge exchange.

“This congress marks a pivotal moment in our collective journey toward creating a world where everyone, regardless of their ability, has the opportunity to dream and contribute to the betterment of society,” he said.

“It is a shared commitment that has brought us together here today in the United Arab Emirates. We are truly honoured to gather in Abu Dhabi, a city that stands as a beacon of innovation, inclusivity, and progress,” added Al Humaidan.
He also pointed out that WCR 2024 marks a “historical milestone”, as it is being held in the Middle East for the first time.

“Through this congress, we aim not only to showcase our achievements, but also to learn from global leaders and collectively advance rehabilitation practices that embody the principles of equity and inclusion.”

Taking place until September 25 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), WCR 2024 is expected to attract over 500 participants from more than 70 countries.

“From all corners of the world, the diversity of experience and expertise present here is a powerful testament to the global commitment in advancing rehabilitation and inclusivity. This gathering is more than just a forum for sharing knowledge. It is a celebration of employment, collaboration, and the remarkable contribution of every participant.”

Al Humaidan noted that the event brings together leading experts, policymakers, innovators, and advocates, ensuring fruitful discussions, ultimately driving the development of inclusive practices and transformative solutions that benefit individuals and communities worldwide.

“Together, we are laying the foundation for a more inclusive and empowered future”.
