The Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Mind Games announced the winners of the Family Team Tournament as part of the 30th edition Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival.

The one-day competition was held on Friday according to the Swiss system, consisting of seven rounds, and each team is composed of players representing children and their families, “father or mother, or brother.”

Sharma Family of India clinched the gold medal, notching up a spectacular score of 11 points from four matches (one win and three draws).

Yakubbev Family of Uzbekistan won the silver medal with a score of 10 points from four wins, two draws and one loss.

The bronze medal went to the Family of Moroccan international master Mohammed Tissir with 10 points from three wins and four draws.

The 30th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival is taking place from August 15-25, 2024 at the St. Regis Hotel Abu Dhabi and Radisson Blu Hotel and Resort, is organised by the Abu Dhabi Chess Club and Mind Games and supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The 30th edition has achieved an unprecedented participation record of more than 2,200 male and female players representing 82 countries, compared to last year’s event which witnessed the participation of 1,704 players from 63 countries.

The events include International Masters competitions, Open Championship A, Open Championship B, Juniors (under 16 years-old) tournament, Open Blitz tournament, Juniors Blitz tournament (under 16 years), Family Team tournament, Community Teams tournament, Government Department Teams tournament, People of Determination tournament, the main Abu Dhabi Chess Academy tournament and the remaining Abu Dhabi Chess Academy tournaments (nine to 17 years).
