ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Aletihad News Center and TRENDS Research and Advisory took part in volunteer activities in Cape Town, South Africa, in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day, observed annually on July 18. This day honours the legacy of the late leader Nelson Mandela, who fought for freedom, justice, and equality in South Africa and around the world.

The volunteer activities, organised by the Mandela Legacy Foundation in Cape Town in collaboration with IGT Solutions, focused on assisting the needy and empowering and training youth in various fields.

Zondwa Mandela, Chairman of the Mandela Legacy Foundation, showcased the projects and initiatives undertaken by the foundation in collaboration with several charitable and developmental organisations. These initiatives aim to create job opportunities for youth and equip them with the necessary skills for the job market.

Zondwa Mandela accompanied the participants on a tour of several centres and events that offer youth empowerment programs. He explained the programmes that strive to preserve Mandela's legacy for future generations and promote principles of justice, coexistence, dialogue, and respect.

Dr. Hamad Al Kaabi, Chief Aletihad News Center Officer, said that Aletihad's participation in the volunteer work on the occasion of Nelson Mandela International Day stems from the belief in the importance of volunteer and humanitarian work.

He emphasised that the participation honours Mandela, a symbol of freedom, justice, and equality, and commemorates his legacy of building a better world. He highlighted the significance of volunteer work in fostering social solidarity and spreading the spirit of cooperation within the community. Dr. AlKaabi pointed out that both the UAE and South Africa champion the principles of coexistence, dialogue, and the rejection of racism worldwide, upholding mutual respect, noting that Mandela holds a revered place in the UAE.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory, said that Nelson Mandela International Day represents an opportunity to pause and celebrate the historic leader and his will and determination to bring about positive change, not only in South Africa.

Dr. Al-Ali emphasised the world’s need to draw inspiration from Mandela's positive spirit to build a better future for peoples and all of humanity.

The delegation from Aletihad News Center and TRENDS participated in various volunteer activities, including cleaning and beautifying impoverished areas, distributing aid to the needy, assisting the elderly, and taking part in recreational and educational activities for children.
