Every now and then, the UAE Cybersecurity Council issues warnings or advice to the Internet users of the UAE to be aware and safe while surfing the virtual world. These warnings, part of building a strong cybersecurity strategy, work to ensure the safety and security of the UAE’s cyber infrastructure.
The UAE Cybersecurity Council on Wednesday called on, in a post on X, “individuals and institutions in the public and private sectors to exercise the utmost caution against any suspicious links or sites online, and recommended that users update their TP-Link routers to the latest version in order to avoid several security vulnerabilities”.
TP-Link has released new security updates to fill several security vulnerabilities in the Archer C5400X gaming router. These vulnerabilities may lead to remote code execution, which allows hackers or scammers to execute potentially malicious commands within the targeted device, machine, or process.
Key Responsibilities
The UAE announced the establishment of the Cybersecurity Council on November, 29, 2020. The council is tasked with preparing policies and legislation to enhance cybersecurity in the country and raise the readiness of all sectors to respond to potential breaches.
The Council’s main tasks also include preparing, developing, and updating the national cybersecurity strategy, delivering an integrated national response plan, and strengthening security measures in vital sectors.
The Cybersecurity Council develops a national strategy for cybersecurity. The Council also submits competencies to the Cabinet for approval, and follows up on their implementation in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The Council is also in charge of establishing mechanisms and general frameworks for the exchange, sharing, and governance of information related to cybersecurity among various entities locally and abroad.
