The UAE is actively working on digital transformation as a lifestyle, aiming to transform existing systems into experiences that better serve the needs of people, heard a session on the last day of the Arab Media Forum 2024 held in Dubai.

The session, titled “The Role of Advanced Technology in Accelerating Digital Transformation”, and moderated by Maysa Al Qalla, Senior Presenter at CNBC, witnessed the participation of Jasim Al Awadi, the Chief ICT Officer at Du.

Al Awadi highlighted initiatives that the UAE is employing, especially artificial intelligence, as part of efforts to overcome outdated technologies and create better jobs through digital transformation.

He pointed out that the UAE has been a pioneer in this regard, boasting 5G and 4G coverage, impressive download and upload speeds, and competitiveness in infrastructure.

According to Al Awadi, the digital transformation of institutions is a complex process that requires a combination of government and private sector support. The government plays a crucial role in driving this transformation, serving as the hub of innovation and supporting the private sector in addressing issues. The private sector has demonstrated the ability to adapt rapidly, opening new horizons and focusing on sectors such as healthcare, education, and manufacturing.

Al Awadi said that the UAE government has made significant investments in supporting digital transformation, such as tech establishments, and applications for students and teachers. Moreover, the government has established defence systems to safeguard data systems, and workshops are being conducted to protect both the private and government sectors.

Speaking to Aletihad, Al Awadi said that the Arab Media Forum is a strategic confluence of media professionals, thought leaders, and digital content creators from across the globe – serving as a platform to address the complex political, social, and technological trends that shape the future of media.

“As an ongoing partner, Du’s investment in the event reflects our dedication to supporting the growth and innovation of a media community increasingly influenced by digital advancements,” he added.

Al Awadi highlighted the UAE’s collaboration with government entities to leverage ICT and drive digitalisation in various impactful ways, featuring the role of advanced technology in digital acceleration.

Also visiting the forum is Maryam Al Blooshi, a Marketing and Communications Executive at United Arab Emirates University’s Department of Media and Creative Industries.

She said that the purpose of her attendance at the Arab Media Forum was to provide insights to students in identifying the trends, challenges, and opportunities that will shape their path.

“It was important for us, as the students benefited from attending some of the sessions and experiences. For example, discussions about technology and the shift in relationship with artificial intelligence were particularly enlightening,” she added.
