ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (MBZUH), in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent and the Emirates Autism Society, has hosted a community initiative for orphans in celebration of Zayed Humanitarian Work Day.

The third edition of the community outreach programme, May the Most Merciful Have Mercy on Them, was held on the 19th day of Ramadan at the university’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The event featured several activities, including the distribution of Eid Joy boxes to 50 orphaned children, containing presents, clothing, and other essential supplies, as well as a commemorative note honouring supporters of the initiative.

The event also featured a theatrical programme and a breakfast session with university volunteers.

His Excellency Dr Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Chancellor at the Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities, said: “Zayed Humanitarian Work Day is a national occasion in which we celebrate Zayed Al Khair (the late Sheikh Zayed) to draw inspiration from his pioneering experience. The day also marks a renewal of our pledge of loyalty to our country and our leaders, by continuing the UAE’s rich legacy of humanitarian work.

“May the Most Merciful Have Mercy on Them pays tribute to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose humanitarian work was a shining example of compassion and charity for the world. His unwavering commitment to supporting the needs of the marginalised in society stands to this day as an inspiration for charitable initiatives, especially for the university, which has pledged to play a vital role in supporting the development of the community it serves.

“The initiative also aims to encourage charitable work, consolidate the value of giving and compassion, and extend a helping hand and assistance among university members. In doing this, we hope to bring joy and happiness to the souls of orphans as they look forward to the days of the blessed Eid Al Fitr, with the help of university students, teachers, and administrative personnel.”
