In a proud moment for the United Arab Emirates, Salem Al Marri, the Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), took to X (formerly Twitter) to joyfully welcome partners from NASA, the US Space Agency, to the country. Al Marri's tweet read: "Delighted to welcome our NASA partners to the UAE and to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre this week for close collaboration on the Gateway Lunar Space Station. The team at MBRSC is continuously working on this project, specifically on the development of the Emirates Airlock, the lunar station's airlock. Our collaboration with our NASA colleagues is rooted in shared objectives and a strong ambition that unites the team."

Earlier this week, Al Marri proudly announced that the UAE had embarked on the monumental task of working on the Lunar Gateway Station. This groundbreaking project, which the UAE officially joined on January 7, aims to orbit the moon and, in a decade, achieve the historic feat of landing an Emirati astronaut on the lunar surface.

Under the banner of a collaborative effort, the UAE has partnered with NASA and space agencies from Japan, the European Union, and Canada on this ambitious endeavour. At the forefront of the UAE's contribution, the MBRSC team will be responsible for the development of the airlock component of the Gateway and providing crucial engineering support throughout the lunar space station's operational life.

The collaboration symbolises the UAE's commitment to space exploration and the country's aspiration to play a significant role in the global space community, marking a proud milestone in the nation's journey towards scientific excellence and interstellar achievements.
