The Emirates Association for Social Development in Ras Al Khaimah organised a hiking trip to Wadi Al Layat with the participation of 40 Emirati children ages 7-14.

The trip fell under the umbrella of the ‘’World’s Coolest Winter’’ campaign, which highlights the most prominent natural attractions in the UAE, especially during the winter season.

The excursion aimed to encourage the hikers to exercise while taking a break from technology, as participants refrained from using their mobile phones during the experience.

During the trip, participants had the opportunity to explore the wild plants and picturesque natural features of Wadi Al Layat. The children also learned facts about the surrounding environment and the need for environmental sustainability and preservation across generations.

The trip included many activities and events, starting with a workshop on first aid, where participants received practical training on what to do in emergency situations. A lecture was also given on positive citizenship, focusing on how an individual can contribute to improving society through their own initiatives. The trip also included many team building games and activities.

Khalaf Salem bin Anbar, Director General of the Emirates Association for Social Development, said that through this trip, the Association’s Board of Directors aims to make a positive impact on the participants, by integrating recreational and cultural activities that seek to achieve comprehensive development at the individual and societal level.

‘’The UAE is an exceptional and unique tourist destination, especially in the winter, as it is distinguished by its moderate climate, diversity of terrain, and cultural richness. It also provides many diverse tourist destinations, such as mountains, beaches, and deserts, that meet the needs of all visitors, both domestically and from all over the world,’’ he added.

Abeer Al Saroumi, coordinator of the Al Rams Health Centre at the Emirates Association for Social Development, stressed the importance of achieving a balance in using and enjoying technology and taking temporary breaks from technology to stimulate creativity and improve mental health.
