Whether you are visiting Abu Dhabi for a few hours or a few weeks, single trip or multiple trips, the emirate offers just the right type of visa.

You can apply for these visas online by simply uploading the required documents and paying the fees. The processing usually takes three to four days, and the visa is sent over email.

Single-entry transit visa

This visa is for passengers transiting through Abu Dhabi International Airport for a period between eight hours and four calendar days and travelling onward to a third destination.

Validity of entry: 14 days
Duration: 4 days
Number of entries: Single entry

48-hour single-entry transit visa

This visa is for passengers transiting through Abu Dhabi International Airport for a period between eight to 48 hours and travelling onward to a third destination.

Validity of entry: 14 days
Duration: 48 hours
Number of entries: Single entry

Single-entry tourist visa

To apply for this visa, your passport should be valid for a minimum period of six months. This visa may also be extended twice for 30 days.

Validity of entry: 60 days
Duration: 30 days
Number of entries: Single entry

Multiple-entry tourist visa

This multiple entry visa may be extended twice for 30 days each time.

Validity of entry: 60 days
Duration: 30 days (starting from the date of first entry)
Number of entries: Multiple entry (within 30 days from the date of first entry)

Long-term single-entry tourist visa

This visa allows tourists to stay in the UAE for up to 60 days.

Validity of entry: 60 days
Duration: 60 days
Number of entries: Single entry

Long-term multiple-entry tourist visa

This visa is valid for 60 days and allows multiple entries.

Validity of entry: 60 days
Duration: 60 days (starting from the date of first entry)
Number of entries: Multiple entry (within 60 days from the date of first entry)

Does everyone need a visa before entering Abu Dhabi?

No. Citizens of several countries do not need to apply for a visa before travelling to the UAE. According to the Etihad Airways website, citizens from below countries or regions can simply make their way to the immigration counters to receive a visa when they arrive. Passengers should know that the list is subject to change, and they should always check with the airline before travelling to Abu Dhabi.

Documents required (when applying online with Etihad Airways)

• Completed application form
• 6cm x 6cm photograph in colour (minimum of 600 x 600 pixels) with a white background (at least 80 per cent of the face should be visible)
• Colour copy of the passport showing the full name, nationality, date and place of birth, passport number, date of issue and expiry, name of father / legal guardian, and the name of the mother
• Valid passport with at least six months validity at the time of travel
• Confirmed ticket travelling into UAE and onwards from UAE (Please note: Travel agents may not ask for a travel ticket when applying for a UAE visa)
