The Dubai Police all-women SWAT team is gearing up for their second consecutive participation in the prestigious 2024 UAE SWAT Challenge, scheduled to take place February 3-7 at the Dubai Police training centre in Al Ruwayyah.

In their debut at the 2023 UAE SWAT Challenge, the team secured a commendable tenth position out of 55 competing teams globally, hailing from Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, Latin America, and the United States. Their prowess and expertise in addressing various challenges earned them accolades from international SWAT leaders, recognising their advanced training and skills.

Preparing for Competition

The team's manager, Lieutenant Yasser Al Zarouni, affirmed their readiness for the upcoming fifth edition of the challenge, in line with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.

Al Zarouni also pointed out that this year the team is anticipating a fiercer competition, amidst an increasing global interest in such events, which contribute to fostering international cooperation among elite units.

He added that the team, comprised of eight highly-trained members, has undergone rigorous specialised training programmes, covering tactical shooting, breaching, sniping, and endurance.

High Team Morale

Lieutenant Afraa Al Naemi, a dedicated member of the SWAT team, reiterated the team's commitment and preparedness, expressing confidence in overcoming the five challenges included in the competition.

Al Naemi highlighted the developmental impact of their initial experience in the UAE SWAT Challenge, which enhanced their understanding of global tactical team operations and introduced them to the latest practices in rapid intervention and special operations.

She explained how last year's challenge boosted the team's morale as they "gained valuable insights into their efficiency and readiness to handle diverse challenges in the competition, including hostage rescue, assault challenges, officer rescue missions, and high tower navigation."
