AMNA AL KITBI (DUBAI)

Dubai Municipality has issued more than 400 permits for winter camps in the Al Awir area this year, as the temporary winter camping season in the emirate continues until the end of April 2024.

The municipality emphasised the necessity of providing all basic requirements, services, and facilities in the temporary winter camps project, aiming to enhance the experience of visitors, ensure a safe and comfortable camping experience, and prevent random camping.

According to the municipality, priority has been given to people of determination and senior citizens in terms of reserving front spaces in the designated winter camping area to facilitate their entry and exit movements. Furthermore, camps are to be only used by families.

While the municipality has provided stores for camping supplies, it has stated that permit holders are responsible for creating their own camp and surrounding it with a temporary fence. The camp owner has complete freedom in terms of the interior design of the camp according to their needs and requirements.

According to the municipality, eight conditions must be followed during the camping period.  These include complying with temporary use condition of the camp by the permit holder and not allowing its use by others or renting it for any other activity.

Furthermore, campers must adhere to laws, customs, traditions, and the camp boundaries according to the issued permit. The camp should be surrounded by a temporary fence, and the camp signboard should be placed visibly. It is mandatory to remove the camp and its contents after the permit expires, and fill any excavations made within the camp boundaries.

Campers must also comply with public health and safety requirements, maintain the site’s cleanliness and appearance, adhere to civil defense regulations for fire prevention and safety, provide a fire extinguisher inside the camp, abstain from using fireworks, limit the speed of sand bikes within the camp area to less than 20 kilometres per hour, and avoid the use of spotlights and loudspeakers.

The municipality has also allocated space for public sector partners interested in participating in the season to design their own camps. Campers can request permits through the dedicated online link.
