The UAE holds the second position globally on the list of countries with the most skyscrapers exceeding 300 metres in height (supertall) by the end of 2023, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The CTBUH's data indicate that the UAE currently hosts 34 supertall skyscrapers followed by the US with a total of 31 towers in the same category. China tops the global list with a total of 116 skyscrapers in the category.

South Korea ranks fourth globally with a total of seven supertall towers, followed by Malaysia with six towers and Thailand with three towers in the same category. Australia and Japan are tied for seventh place with two towers each, followed by Indonesia in eighth place with one tower.

A New Achievement

According to the same data, the UAE ranks third globally in hosting skyscrapers across three categories: plus 150 metres, plus 200 metres, and supertall. By the end of 2023, the country will host 517 skyscrapers, compared with about 479 skyscrapers in mid-2022, signifying the completion of 38 skyscrapers within 18 months.

China leads globally with a total of 4,391 towers, followed by the United States with 1,160 towers across the three categories. South Korea is fourth with 362 skyscrapers, followed by Japan with 332 towers, and Malaysia in sixth place with 353 skyscrapers. Australia ranks seventh globally with 214 towers, followed by Indonesia with 185 towers, and then Canada with 177 towers. Thailand ranks 10th with a total of 159 skyscrapers.

As of today, there are only four completed megatall buildings, above 600 metres, globally, and the over 1000-metre tall Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is currently under construction.

CTBUH is an international non-profit organisation, specialising in skyscrapers and sustainable urban design, based at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, in the US, with wide authority to determine the official height of tall buildings and to award the World's Tallest Building title.
