The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has been pivotal in worldwide efforts to help those in need, whether in rescue missions, providing food and shelter or treating the victims during catastrophes. However, the ERC is also conscious about nature and the urgency to protect the environment, which resulted in the launch of the Grace Conservation Project in 2017.

The project aims to provide beneficiaries, whether inside the UAE or abroad, with food aid and preserve the environment by recycling surplus resources. On the sidelines of COP28, Aletihad met with Sultan Al Shehi, Manager of the Grace Conservation Project at the ERC who talked about the programme’s efforts in preserving the environment.

“Today, we are present at COP28 to work on sustainability…, namely food, medicine, technological staff, agriculture, and the environment,” he said.

The Grace Conservation Project of the ERC has provided over one million meals, while also providing home furniture, benefitting 750 families, as well as clothing targeting 70 households. The Grace Conservation Project also develops the ERC’s existing services, such as recycling food materials and turning them into animal feed, organic fertiliser, or energy, he added.

The project also seeks to establish partnerships with the community through collaborations with companies in recycling, ultimately benefitting the environment and those in need.
