Abu Dhabi (Aletihad) - The Ministry of Education launched the “National Leadership Academy” programme, dedicated to preparing Emirati higher education professionals in the UAE to become leaders in their fields and in various government sectors. This comes within the framework of its continuous efforts to support, empower, and qualify Emirati competencies in the education field.

The programme was launched by His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Al Mualla, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Academic Affairs for Higher Education, and a number of senior officials from the Ministry.

The programme currently has 33 Emirati participants, representing ten universities in the country. Ten of the participants work in academia and another 23 work in administration.

The programme takes place in three stages over six months, during which participants develop their strategic, personal, and practical skills through a range of interactive programmes and workshops and practical trainings.

The programme aims to develop innovative solutions to the challenges facing higher education through projects planned by leaders in groups from different universities, allowing them to demonstrate their ability to lead the higher education sector to new horizons by translating the strategic plan developed by the Ministry, in line with the aspirations and ambitions of the UAE.

His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi confirmed: “Developing and nurturing the capabilities and competencies of Emiratis in the education field is one of the strategic axes that the Ministry invests in with the aim of achieving sustainable growth in the educational system.

Based on our belief that qualifying young leaders is a fundamental condition for the future education system to be pioneering, successful, proactive, and able to contribute to achieving the country’s developmental vision, we were keen to make the ‘National Leadership Academy’ programme an effective contributor to training national leaders who possess the knowledge, skills, and innovative thinking necessary to elevate the higher education sector in the country, and enhance its competitiveness and presence at the local, regional, and global levels, both academically and administratively.”

The first stage of the programme, which takes place over a full week at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, involves meetings and direct interaction with participants through a series of lectures, interactive workshops, and training activities specifically designed to develop the participants’ leadership awareness. The second stage lasts for five months, during which a comprehensive, 360-degree assessment will be conducted to for individual leadership development.

A mentor will be assigned to each leader, and periodic follow-up will be carried out to build and implement projects, with necessary support provided by the ministry and the consulting agency sponsoring the projects. The third stage of the programme is scheduled to take place from April to May 2024, during which the participants’ projects will be evaluated and launched by the ministry and sponsors.

Participants will be awarded a globally recognised certificate.
